A First Look at Who’s Who in Disney’s “Big Hero 6”

By Erin

*I attended an early press day for this film as a guest of Disney for purposes of this post. All thoughts and opinions remain my own. All photos and videos are courtesy of Walt Disney Studios.*

There are some new super heroes coming our way this fall. I’m here today to introduce you and give you a first look at who’s who in Disney’s upcoming film Big Hero 6.  You will meet this dynamic group of friends when you go to see the film for yourself starting November 7th, but I have some important background information for you about each of them to make your experience that much more magical and enjoyable. From the creators of Frozen and Wreck it Ralph, Walt Disney Animation Studios is bringing us an action packed comedy adventure filled with heart about a robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, his brilliant brother Tadashi and all of their super smart friends: the adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, Honey Lemon the chemistry whiz and Fred the fanboy. Inspired by the Marvel comics ‘Big Hero 6’ it is directed by Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh) and Chris Willams (Bolt), and produced by Roy Conli (Tangled).

 Fred

Fanboy Fred is one laid back dude. Very eager to join “Big Hero 6” as he has tons of ideas to put into play. A sign-twirling, monster-loving, comic book aficionado, with a ferocious, fire-breathing alter ego who comes complete with claws. You can except much comedy to ensue with this guy.

Honey Lemon

A real chemistry whiz, complete with glasses and funky fashion to match. This girl may be sweet as honey as her name implies, but she also has a lemon in her name and you know how those taste. Honey Lemon also has a fiery side and can do attitude that makes her unstoppable. With a mad scientist like quality, including that crazy twinkle in her eye, honey is sure to entertain us all with her smarts to get the team out of any jam. I’m so glad they included two strong female characters in this film. It truly helps make it a movie for anyone, not just the boys. Also be on the look out for Honey’s purse and what’s on it. It has the periodic table on it and I’d love to have one of my own!

The Hundred Foot Journey is Here! #100FootJourney

The Hundred Foot Journey

By Erin

Food! Who doesn’t love food and a good meal? Starting today you are in for a taste of something extraordinary. In DreamWorks Pictures’ “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” the journey begins with the opening of a new Indian restaurant in the south of France, next to a famous Michelin starred eatery. An all-out war pretty much breaks out between the two eateries trying to out do one another and sabotaging the other. Le Saule Pleureur’s Madame Mallory can’t deny any longer her rival’s culinary gift as a chef. If there is one thing I could recommend to you, it would be to have lunch or dinner before you make your way over to the theater. You don’t want to see this one on an empty stomach! All the delicious food shown in this film is bound to make your stomach growl and you will be starving for some of the dishes shown before the end credits roll.  “The Hundred-Foot Journey” was adapted from the best-selling novel by Richard C.Morais. Directed by Lasse Hallström (Chocolat).  Dame Helen Miren was perfectly cast as Le Saule Pleureur’s  chilly chef proprietress, Madame Mallory. The clasically trained french chef is feeling the heat from the opening of an Indian restaurant 100 feet across the street from her Michelin-starred palace and she is feeling quite threatened. Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) a culinary ingénue and his family, led by Papa (Om Puri) move to a small village in the South of France known as Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val.

Two cultures collide and the outraged Madame Mallory is on a mission to have the newcomers shut down at any cost, causing utter chaos between the two restaurants and almost shutting one of them down for good.  The passion and talent Hassan has for French cuisine can’t be denied any longer by the Madame Mallory. A magical friendship unfolds between her sous chef Marguerite (Charlotte Lebon) and Hassan; a love story ensues that molds the two cultures together and they soon discover a recipe for success that will surprise everyone. The film is Rated PG, and was produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey. Spielberg states, “We had a chance to put our creative energies together in a very compatible way to tell this story about compatibility amongst people you never imagined could be compatible.” It is a great film, so bring your favorite foodie along with you for the ride. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will probably leave hungry for more.

Million Dollar Arm Review

Million Dollar Arm Review

By Erin

Disney’s newest film, Million Dollar Arm has arrived in theaters everywhere today! I had the chance to attend a press screening of the movie last month and here’s what I have to share about this wonderful film. There’s so much to love about it, so much more than I was expecting there to be, I was pleasantly surprised, and I am sure you will be too! It doesn’t hurt that one of the stars of the film is Jon Hamm. 😉

Based on a true story, Million Dollar Arm stars Jon Hamm as JB Bernstein who is a  struggling sports agent. Bernstein realizes that business has changed drastically and things aren’t going so well for his career. As a last-ditch effort to save his career and livelihood he comes up with this crazy idea to find baseball’s next great pitching ace by traveling to India to produce a reality show competition called “The Million Dollar Arm.” He leaves everything behind, leaving a large prestigious firm to go out on his own with a dear friend  Ash (played by Aasif Mandvi).

With the help of retired baseball scout Ray Poitevint (Alan Arkin) who is cantankerous yet has a remarkable eagle eye, they soon discover Dinesh (Madhur Mittal from “Slumdog Millionaire”) and Rinku (Suraj Sharma from “Life of Pi”), who are two 18-year-old boys who have no idea about playing baseball, yet have a knack for throwing a fastball. Many hilarious and heartfelt scenes ensue with these boys.
