Celebrate Summer with Ruby’s new Shakes! #RubysSummerShakes

Celebrate Summer with Ruby’s new Shakes!

By Erin

Summer is here and what better way to celebrate than with some cool and refreshing shakes from Ruby’s? When Ruby’s asked if I’d come in to try out their new summer shakes, I couldn’t resist! Ruby’s has three new shakes available for a limited time, as sadly, summer doesn’t last forever. So get them while they  last! There are three special flavors for summer – Kit Kat, Double Dark Chocolate and Heath Bar. These shakes will make you Chocolate Happy!

Rubys-Diner

Ruby’s has 40 locations across the U.S. in California, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania & Texas.

Rubys-French-Fries

Before we get to the shakes though, we started out with some french fries to share and a nice ice-cold Cherry-Coke! So refreshing on a warm summer night!

Of course, if you go to Ruby’s and have some fries… you are going to want to have a burger with those fries! 😉

Rubys-Hickory-Burger

I had one of my favorites. The Hickory Burger. A half-pound of premium USDA choice beef, topped with two slices of melted cheddar cheese, with thick-cut bacon, crisp lettuce, tomato, Ruby Sauce, and crispy Ruby Rings. Topped with a delicious and zesty BBQ sauce! It’s a whole lot of “yum” in one bite! On the side I got some hot, crispy, garlic fries! I love all the fresh garlic they top them with!

Rubys-Classic-Burger

My friend that I was dining out with, chose one of her personal favorites, The Classic Ruby Burger. Still simple, yet delicious after all these years. Topped with crisp lettuce, tomato, Ruby Sauce and Pepper Jack cheese, makes for another delicious option.

Rubys-Onion-Rings

If you are not a french fry person, then you might like their golden, crispy, onion rings!

Rubys-Apple-Pecan-Blue-Cheese-Salad

Or maybe you are looking for a healthier option, especially if you plan on indulging in a delicious summery shake afterwards? 😉 Then give the Ruby’s Apple, Pecan & Blue Cheese Salad a whirl. A fresh, spring mix of romaine, Julienne apples, dried cranberries, candied pecans and golden raisins tossed in a Pomegranate Vinaigrette with Blue Cheese crumbles. You can also get this served with Chicken if you wish. Now onto the best part, right? Dessert!!

Rubys-Chocolate-Shakes

The first up of the 3 new summer shakes, was the Double Dark Chocolate shake. A very chocolaty shake, topped with chocolate chips, whipped-cream and a cherry. If you love chocolate and want something simple, then you’ll love this one!

Making a Yoghurt Sundae Bar!

Making a Yoghurt Sundae Bar!

By Erin

It’s not a new concept by any means, but making one of these is just so fun and simple that I wanted to share this with you. Wether you make one just for yourself, friends or family, it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser as everyone gets to make their own and top their creations with their favorite toppings. For my Yoghurt Sundae Bar, I used my favorite kind of yoghurt, Mountain High.

MOUNTAIN-HIGH-US

Yogurt Sundae Bar.

I brought mine to life at home over Memorial Day Weekend as a dessert after having a BBQ. You could make one of these any day of the week though, for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert. It is a lot of fun to dress it up a bit for a holiday get together and it is so simple and easy, just use what you already have.

Did I say that it was easy yet? All you need is a handful of toppings, which you probably already have in your pantry, and a tub of plain or vanilla yoghurt.  I recommend using Mountain High Yoghurt because it’s thicker and easy to mix with all of your mix-in toppings.

1. BEGIN by getting out as many toppings as you wish and place them in small serving dishes or bowls along with a small spoon for each topping, or however you wish to set it up: (Some suggestions are)

*Fresh berries and other fruits that are in season

*Dried Fruits like cranberries, bananas, raisins, or apricots

*Nuts such as almonds, pecans, or peanuts

*Seeds such as Chia seeds, sunflower seeds, or pumpkin seeds

*Chocolate, dark chocolate, chocolate chips; I used some dark chocolate coconut slivers and those tasted amazing in my sundae!

*Mini Oreos

*Gummy bears or Gummy Worms

*Granola

*Honey, Sprinkles, Cinnamon, or other spices and syrups you enjoy.

Detour Bistro Bar Opens in Culver City #BestDetourEver @DetourBistroBar

Detour Bistro Bar Opens in Culver City

By Erin

As if there weren’t enough detours already in Los Angeles with all the freeway and street construction that is continuously going on, this is a Detour you will want to take. I took this Detour myself the other night as part of a media preview, and it left me curious to try more. The Detour Bistro Bar has arrived in the Los Angeles area into Culver City. The Detour combines farm-to-table produce with seasonal California and European inspired dishes to create a unique neighborhood  dining destination in Culver City. This westside restaurant  belongs to Los Angeles locals Ranni Kumgisky and Dane Pearson who are long-time caterers. These two are always searching for the most fresh seasonal ingredients to create weekly menus that will keep customers wanting to come back for more.

The Detour is open daily for happy hour, dinner and weekend brunch. Starting April 6th, they will be opening for lunch at 3pm Monday-Friday.

Why don’t we take a look into what the Detour has to offer?

Detour-Restaurant

The Detour is a quaint little place, but the decor is very LA. I loved the layout of the space, it made it feel bigger and more spacious that what it actually is. It is a very nice, bright and airy space and also has an outdoor patio you can enjoy on a nice sunny California afternoon or evening.

Detour-Tables

Best Detour Ever. I love the walls here.

Detour-Wine

I know many people, including myself who would love to have one of these! So creative.

The menu for the media preview.

Detour-Drinks

We started the evening out with some drinks. From left to right; The Diablo, Honey Old Fashioned, and the Summer Splash. I had the Summer Splash which consisted of vodka, cranberry, pineapple, and sweet and sour. It was very refreshing and not to fruity, perfect for a nice warm spring evening.

Detour-Shrimp Tacos

Shrimp Tacos: Cabbage, cilantro sauce, corn tortillas. So simple, yet so good. This was my favorite item from the night. I love shrimp, and these shrimp were pretty darn good, I also love tacos. It always makes for a great combination.

Detour-Lamb-And-Goat-Cheese-Flatbread

Lamb & Goat Cheese Flatbread: Lamb, Goat cheese, apricot marmalade, and mint. This was also a pretty tasty bite that we tried. Very flavorful and tender.
