FIGat7th is all decked out with pretty lights, snowflakes and a beautiful tree.

City-Tavern-Winter-Spice

It’s been pretty chilly here in LA. Make sure you try one of these to warm up! The Winter Spice: Chai tea and vanilla bean infused spiced rum with ginger, cinnamon and cream. $10 They are amazing…. the perfect winter cocktail. Once you have had one, you might just need to get a second one. They’re just that good. 🙂

If you have a yummy Winter Spice Cocktail, then you’re going to want to have a charcuterie and cheese slate to go with it. Artisanal cured meats, farmhouse cheeses, crisps, seasonal jam, mustard and more. A very enjoyable and delicious way to sip and savor the flavors of the season.

City-Tavern-Brussels-Sprouts-DTLA

I love my veggies, so when it was recommended to me to try the charred brussels sprouts, I was all for it! Brussels Sprouts topped with Bacon and a sweet chili glaze, made for a heavenly veggie delight!

City-Tavern-DTLA-Ham-Chops

For the holiday season, City Tavern has the grilled ham chop. A cured pork chop, corn cake, crispy poached egg, green beans, with a bourbon glaze. I loved every bite of this one. The ham was so tender and melt in your mouth good and I just love green beans and corn cake. Yum! This is a holiday treat you must try.

City-Tavern-Pineapple-Upside-Down-Cake

All of the desserts here look so tasty, but we decided on one that I’ve always loved having as a child. The pineapple-upside-down-cake. Very moist and creamy topped with lots of fresh pineapple pieces.

I love chocolate. And wine. Which is why I am so excited to be covering The Indulge LA Chocolate & Pastry Show, coming to Los Angeles on December 27th. If you haven’t already indulged in enough Christmas treats by then, you’ll have one more chance here before the new year rings in, when we’ll all be trying to stick to those new years resolutions to go back to eating healthier and all that. You have to treat yourself every once and awhile to something special like this though right? AND it’s for such a GREAT cause as this event also benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Another reason why I am so very excited for the Chocolate Festival and Pastry Show to hit Los Angeles is because Celebrity food critique Sophie Gayot will be here hosting the event. I recently had the chance to meet her and sit next to her at a very special media dinner at the Bel Air Bar and Grill (post to come soon about this magical experience. I say magical as it has ties to Disney) and she is a very amazing woman. I was honored to be in her presence, and to hear her words of wisdom, her fiery spirit, and words of inspiration, especially in light of the events that had just so recently happened in Paris. When I read that she was going to be here, it just made me that more excited to go.

Celebrity Dating Expert Brooke Lewis will also be in attendance to host the 7th Annual Indulge Los Angeles at the Olympic Collection.

They will come together to put on a visual heaven in Los Angeles filled with sweet delights paired with the world’s top champagnes, wines, and spirits.

Among the celebrity chefs this year are MOF World Pastry Champion Stephane Treand, and World Champion Chocolatier Jean Marie Auboine.

City Taven & Sprinkles Cupcakes in DTLA at FIGat7th!

By Erin

*Disclosure: I was invited out to FIGat7th to try out a couple different places for purposes of this post. All thoughts and opinions remain my own. :)*

Fall is here and the holidays are just around the corner! As Thanksgiving festivities and yuletide cocktail ideas dance in our heads as to what to serve at holiday parties, FIGat7th’s restaurants and eateries have great options for your upcoming winter and holiday food festivities, or if you just want a delicious meal out without any fuss to enjoy the holidays with.

The restaurants at FIGat7th are cooking up with the most fresh and seasonal ingredients to create up a collection of amazing signature dishes. Located in DTLA (Downtown LA) at 7th + Figueroa, it is a bit of a hidden gem in the heart of downtown, not too far from the Staples Center (but without the huge price tag for parking as you can park all day for only $5 with validation on weekends and after 4pm on week days! You really can’t beat that price in the DTLA area!)

Our first stop was to City Tavern, which is located on the lower level of the mall. Once you enter this large space with exposed brick walls, reclaimed wood floors & walls, with wooden tables and chairs, you will forget you are in a mall. It’s like a little oasis in the big city.

City-Tavern-Brunch-DTLA-FIGat7th-Mimosa-Cheese-Wine-90017

We came on a Sunday and they were serving brunch. Brunch is served until 3pm on Sundays. Obviously as you can see from above, I had to have a mimosa. What would a Sunday Funday Brunch be without some yummy mimosas? 😉 My friend and I both love cheese, so we decided to start out with the farmhouse cheese boardwhich is off of the “SHARE” part of the menu, consisted of: cheeses, crisps, and accompaniments. It was the perfect way to start out our meal.

City-Tavern-DTLA-Deviled-Eggs-90017-Los-Angeles-FIGat7th

Another one off the “SHARE” portion of the menu that we decided to sample were the Deviled Eggs! Chopped bacon, housemade hot sauce and chives made for a unique twist on the deviled egg!

City-Tavern-FIGat7th-Salads-Healthy-Kale-Los-Angeles-Culver-City-DTLA

Next, we opted for the kale and quinoa salad that is in the “GREENS” section of the menu. Besides quinoa  and kale; apples, raisins, walnuts, and apple cider vinaigrette topped this one. It made for a nice, light, and very tasty course.

City-Tavern-DTLA-FIGat7th-Fried-Chicken-Eggs-Los-Angeles-Culver-City-90017

Moving onto some of the main courses during brunch, one that caught our eye was the fried chicken and biscuit from the “RISE & SHINE” part of the menu. The fried chicken was amazing, crispy on the outside while the meat inside was so tender and juicy, while the county sausage gravy and biscuit were so heavenly!

City-Tavern-Pastrami-Burger-DTLA-FIGat7th-Los-Angeles-Culver-City-Hollywood-90017

If you’re looking for more of a burger or sandwich, then give this lovely number a shot! The pastrami swiss burger from the “HELD” part on the menu will make your taste buds happy. Smoked pastrami, swiss cheese, creamy coleslaw, on a whole grain bun with mustard aioli makes up this tasty piece.

Sprinkles-Cupcakes-FIGat7th-DTLA-Los-Angeles-Culver-City-Hollywood-Beverly-Hills-90017

At this point, we were starting to get pretty full, so we decided to call it a day at City Tavern so that we would still have room for some cupcakes at the Sprinkles Cupcakes upstairs. 🙂

Sprinkles-Cupcakes-FIGat7th-DTLA-Los-Angeles-Hollywood-Beverly-Hills-90017-Desserts

With so many different fun flavors to choose from, it was so hard to pick two to try! They all look so yummy and delicious!

Sprinkles-Cupcakes-Cuban-Coffee-Pumpkin-Spice-DTLA-FIGat7th-Los-Angeles-Beverly-Hills-Hollywood-90017

I ended up going with the seasonal choice, Pumpkin Spice (on the left, which is available through November 30th) and the Cuban Coffee flavors. Oh my, there are no words to describe how utterly delicious a Sprinkles cupcake is. If you’ve had one before, then you know what I mean. They were both fantastic, I enjoyed every last moist, flavorful morsel of each one of these cupcakes. The Pumpkin cupcake is laced with fragrant ginger, clove, nutmeg and cinnamon and is topped with a sweet cinnamon cream cheese frosting. The Cuban Coffee is a Belgian light chocolate cake topped with a powerful dark roast coffee frosting and subtle notes of cinnamon and cocoa. After having these, we were stuffed and decided to a little bit of shopping before heading back home.

What would you have at City Tavern for Brunch? What flavor cupcakes would you choose at Sprinkles? FIGat7th has a flavor everyone can enjoy this holiday season! 🙂
