Celebrating the Toy Story 4 Blu-ray & DVD Release with Forky!
By Nancy & Erin
This summer, Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” took audiences on a hilarious and heartwarming road trip with Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the whole gang, earning a 98 percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and more than $1 billion at the global box office. Packed with old friends and new faces, the fourth film in the beloved Toy Story series, which leads Woody to an unexpected fork in the road, is on Digital and Movies Anywhere now, and will be on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™, and DVD Oct. 8th!
We were lucky enough to be able to attend the interviews of Director Josh Cooley and Producer Mark Nielsen at Mattel. According to the director and producer, the concept of Forky came into being by whatever kids play with can come alive, nothing is trash! The main thought in this story is to be yourself because it only takes one person to see it and make a difference in another child’s life!
We also got to attend the interviews of Krsiten Schaal (the voice of “Trixie”) and Ally Maki (the voice of “Giggle McDimples”) They were both full of energy, imagination, and said they were surprised that they got the part.
Claudio De Oliveiria (Pixar Animator) and Ana Ramirez ( Pixar Visual development Artist) were the last but not least to be interviewed. Claudio said since it is not easy to find sporks, he went to a pizza place to buy pizza to get the sporks they had there. He went threw quite a few before the team landed on the one. He said he left a few on their desks so they could play with them and make them move. He says he had lost his but found it later in another members hands at a meeting. He knew it was his because it has his name on the bottom of the feet (or ice cream sticks)! Ana says a lot of sketching is done before the final product is approved.
Next we got to take a tour of Mattel. We got to see the Concept art, 3D sculpting, and 3D printing departments. Everything is computerized and needs a lot of talent to operate. It was amazing!
Last, we saw the Toy Story Packaging department. It was very interesting how they came upon the packaging for some of the Toy Story 4. Since the toys in the movie are in the RV a lot, they decided to pack them in a RV. That way the kids can play with them in the RV box also. They are really geniuses there. I had a fun time visiting Mattel and learning the story behind Toy Story 4.
In “Toy Story 4,” Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) has always been confident about his place in the world, and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. So, when Bonnie’s beloved new craft-project-turned-toy Forky (voice of Tony Hale) calls himself “trash,” Woody decides to teach Forky how to embrace being a toy. Toys have problems too. A lot of the toys have never had a kid before or have been lost. Some toys don’t live up to the commercials so are trashed or given away. But the best thing is to be a toy for a child, as it is the noblest thing you can do and Forky need to learn this. Toys need to be loved by another child or another toy! A road-trip adventure, including an unexpected reunion with his long-lost friend Bo Peep (voice of Annie Potts), shows Woody how big the world can be for a toy. In addition, carnival prizes Ducky (voice of Keegan-Michael Key) and Bunny (voice of Jordan Peele) bring a new level of fun to the film. Also, there are more Easter eggs to be found in the antique store, true to Disney-Pixar tradition. When watching the DVD, be sure to stay for the credits to see what happens to Bo and Woody in the end and will Forky find a friend in Knifey, well, we will just have to wait until Toy Story 5 to find out!
To celebrate the release of Toy Story 4 we made Forky and created some new friends for him! It’s super easy to do, and you probably already have most of these items in your home already. The basic supplies you will need are listed above, but you can always improvise and use what you have and add other items you like that are not listed here.
We created a Spoon friend and a Recycle friend for Forky, you think they will all get along? I hope so. 😉 Once you’ve made Forky and his friends, then get ready to watch the movie together! There are lots of fun bonus features you won’t want to miss too!
Fans who bring home “Toy Story 4” will be treated to over an hour of bonus features celebrating the film’s iconic characters, Pixar’s filmmaking team and the legacy of “Toy Story,” which began as the world’s first fully computer-animated feature film released nearly 25 years ago.
