Ontario Mills Lights Up the Lunar New Year

California’s largest outlet and value retail shopping destination, Ontario Mills, is celebrating the Year of the Rooster with traditional performances, activities and giveaways on January 28. This Spring Festival is to commemorate the Lunar New Year. On Saturday, January 28th, guests will be treated to sensational performances by cultural lion dancers, Kung Fu masters and towering stilt walkers in addition to fun activities and exclusive giveaways to ring in The Year of the Rooster. I am looking forward to all of this year’s festivities.

As January 28th officially kicks off this year’s Lunar New Year, Ontario Mills joins in the celebration. Starting at 1:30 p.m. in Fashion Alley, guests will be treated to face painters, balloon artists, a themed photo booth and a special Teavana tea station with cookies, all available while supplies last. The performances will begin at 1:30 p.m. with theatrical stilt performers, dressed in ceremonial costumes, walking and greeting guests. To follow, five professional Kung Fu martial artists will perform individual routines at 2:30 p.m. For the grand finale, the Ane Thanh Lion Dance Group will perform a traditional and honorary lion dance show with live drumming and cymbals at 3:30 p.m.

The festivities continue throughout the day with exclusive prizes from 1 p.m. through 4 p.m. Guests who spend $55 or more and present their receipts at the Lunar New Year informational table in Fashion Alley, will receive either a Lunar New Year tote or special hand-fan, while supplies last. Ontario Mills will also be distributing Lunar New Year Offer Guides featuring over 20 special retailer offers from January 27 through February 19.

Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment

The other night I had the opportunity to see Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment at the Honda Center in Orange County. My friend and her two kids also enjoyed the show with me. This show is amazing and entertaining for Disney fans of all ages. A magical show you won’t want to miss this holiday season!

The show starts with Mickey and Minnie making a grand entrance as they host the show by introducing playful scenes from some of your favorite Disney movies. Toy Story 3, The Little Mermaid, Cars, and Frozen are about to take the ice. Each story is told with such talent and grace from the ice skaters as they float and spin across the ice.

First up is Toy Story 3. Starting off in Andy’s room as he says goodbye to his toys before he leaves for college. Andy’s green army men march onto the ice followed by Buzz Lightyear, Barbie & Ken, Woody, Cowgirl Jessie, and the rest of the characters from Toy Story. They escape Lotso, the teddy bear at the Sunnyside Day Care.

Next, we were mesmerized by The Little Mermaid. Sebastian swims out looking for Ariel. She is with her one of her best pals Flounder. Then Ursula and Prince Eric make their appearances. It feels like you are actually under the sea as bubbles fall from the sky as they sing the song “Under the Sea.”

During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) meets the mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), a larger-than-life trickster and shapeshifter who was inspired by multitudes of varied tales and legends about him throughout the Oceania region. He can pull up whole islands from the sea with his fishhook; he has the power to slow down the sun. Maui is on his own journey of self-discovery and he reluctantly guides Moana in her quest to become a master wayfinder and save her people. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, she fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.

For as long as Moana can remember, through the stories of her ancestors that her grandmother shares, the island they live on had always been lush and beautiful. Now everything is dying out. There are no more fish to be found anywhere in the reefs. Coconuts are dried out and rotting. Plants and flowers aren’t blooming. The island is growing dark. The ocean is calling Moana, but her father forbids her from going out into the ocean. She knows she needs to go for it though to help save her people. Through the tales that her aging grandmother tells her, she learns about Maui. Demigod of the wind and the sea who attempted to steal the heart of Te Fiti. The heart is lost in the process though and Maui disappears. Moana’s grandmother knows Moana is their only hope and encourages her to listen to her heart. What happens next? Both young and old will fall in love with Moana. This isn’t your typical Disney princess movie. Moana is a sweeping magical musical adventure that kicks the old Disney princess mold and brings us something that feels fresh and alive. There is no prince charming or any kind of love interest. She is determined to become a master wayfinder and is a bit of a tomboy. Both boys and girls can fall in love with this Disney Princess and learn to listen to their own intuition, to follow their heart and that working together is the only way to make big things happen in this world. Other characters like Pua and Hei Hei will have you laughing out loud too with their actions. This film is full of heart, but it’s also full of some really great laugh out loud comedy too. You will also want to go out and buy them at your nearest Disney Store, they are just that lovable and oh so cute!

The soundtrack is also something you will want to look out for. It is filled with catchy songs and island music. Lin-Manuel Miranda did an awesome job of capturing the heart and soul of the story of Moana. I absolutely love and adore the music and so will you. Also, come on everyone, The Rock is Maui! How can you not? He is the most sexiest man alive, er I mean demi god!
