The Supers are Back in Incredibles 2!

By Erin

The long 14 year wait is finally over and we get to see the Supers back in action in Incredibles 2! Telecommunications guru Winston Deavor calls on Helen aka Elastigirl (voice of Holly Hunter) to help bring Supers back to fight crime and make the public fall in love with superheroes once again. That leaves Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) with one of his greatest challenges ever; to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home to take care of three rambunctious children. Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack offer him a new set of headaches while a new cybercriminal named Screenslaver- hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot that only the Incredibles can overcome together.  You won’t want to miss this action packed film featuring your favorite supers!

Before you go out and see the film, brush up on some fun facts about the film! You can also read about what the cast had to share with us here.

BABY STEPS – For both The Incredibles and Incredibles 2, filmmakers studied real- life babies to capture baby Jack-Jack’s movements. Jack-Jack totally steals the show in this film, he is just so adorable and lovable as we discover his new powers.

DADDY DOLDRUMS – Bob finds that keeping up with three kids, including a toddler with newly revealed super powers, is challenging—and tiring. Filmmakers strategically dressed the character to reflect his state of mind. The more tired Bob gets, the more grays and beiges he wears. As he begins to take charge again, his wardrobe reflects his newfound confidence.

Meeting the Cast of Incredibles 2

Meeting the Cast of Incredibles 2

By Erin

Almost 14 years later, Incredibles 2 is making it’s way to the big screen this Friday, June 15th, 2018. Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose super powers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible. Written and directed by Brad Bird (“Iron Giant,” “The Incredibles,” “Ratatouille”) and produced by John Walker (“The Incredibles,” “Tomorrowland”) and Nicole Grindle (“Sanjay’s Super Team” short, “Toy Story 3” associate producer), Disney•Pixar’s Incredibles 2 busts into theaters this Friday, and you won’t want to miss it!

I had the chance to listen in on the press junket for this Incredible movie, that was held at The London in West Hollywood, California. In attendance was:

  • Craig T. Nelson (“Bob Parr / Mr. Incredible”)
  • Holly Hunter (“Helen Parr / Elastigirl”)
  • Samuel L. Jackson (“Lucius Best / Frozone”)
  • Bob Odenkirk (“Winston Deavor”)
  • Catherine Keener (“Evelyn Deavor”)
  • Sophia Bush (“Voyd”)
  • Sarah Vowell (“Violet Parr”)
  • Huck Milner (“Dash Parr”)
  • Director Brad Bird
  • Producer Nicole Grindle
  • Producer John Walker

It was a very hilarious conversation with lots of laughs. Huck Milner was not even born yet at the time of the original release of the Incredibles, so he was asked when he first saw the movie.

When did you see the first movie for the first time and how did it come about that you were going to be a part of Incredibles 2?

HUCK MILNER: I saw the first movie when I was like five or something. My dad showed me it. Because he really loved the first one. And I really loved it, too. And my favorite character was Dash probably. When I got the audition, I just was watching the movie over and over again and when my mom got sick of watching it, I used the audition as an excuse to watch it again.

There is a role reversal with this movie between Elastigirl and Mr. Incredible. Violet really steps up and there’s other things that happen in the film, too. Holly, what was your first take when you first read the screen play and saw that role reversal?

HOLLY HUNTER:  Well, I didn’t read a screenplay. Because there wasn’t really one. It was a while before I truly realized what I was really going to get to do in the movie. I was really thrilled. But it was like a retroactive thrill. Because over a period of months before I started gleefully singing during our recording sessions about how great my part was. But to me, it was just really fun. I don’t think that this is a message movie in any way. I think it’s purely like luck, luck of the draw that this happens to be dovetailing with me too, and times up. But obviously, time is up. Okay. And I feel that way personally. And it happens to be serendipitously reflected in this particular movie. But at the same time, it’s character revelation period. Everybody is having revelations including Jack-Jack. All the characters are revelations to the audience and to themselves. I’m no exception as Elastigirl.

Disney•Pixar’s COCO

Disney•Pixar’s COCO

By Erin

Disney•Pixar’s COCO is now playing in theatres everywhere! Also, for a limited time only, you can see the brand new Walt Disney Animation Studios’ featurette OLAF’S FROZEN ADVENTURE playing in front of COCO only in theatres! Both of these films are the perfect way to start the holiday season! They will give you all the warm and fuzzy feels.

In COCO, Miguel is an aspiring singer and self-taught guitarist who dreams of following in the footsteps of his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz, the most famous musician in the history of Mexico. But Miguel’s family forbids music. Many years ago, his great-great-grandmother and great-great-grandfather came to an impasse: She wanted to raise their family together in Santa Cecilia, but he couldn’t let go of his dream, leaving his family behind in his quest to be a musician. Passed down from generation to generation, great-great-grandmother Mamá Imelda’s consequent ban on music is strictly enforced—much to Miguel’s dismay. When Miguel unearths a secret from his family’s past—a connection to Ernesto de la Cruz, he rushes to share the news with his family, thinking it will clear the way for him to be a musician. Unfortunately, it only makes matters worse. Miguel feels like he has to choose between his passion for music and his love for his family. Miguel wants to prove to his family that making music is both beautiful and honorable. We follow Miguel as he follows his heart and his dreams.

NO MUSIC – Miguel challenges his family’s generations-old ban on music, spending time with a local mariachi. But his grandmother Abuelita promptly puts a stop to it.

A magical event is sparked by Miguel’s impulsive actions that renders him visible only to those who have come to visit from the Land of the Dead on Día de los Muertos. This world is a beautiful, lively and colorful parallel world that is populated by generations and generations of people who long ago left the Land of the Living, including Miguel’s own ancestors, who instantly recognize him and offer to help—but only if he agrees to give up music forever. Miguel ends up running into and teams up with a scrappy, streetwise skeleton named Héctor and they set out to find Ernesto de la Cruz—who they believe holds the key to Miguel’s baffling and decidedly unmusical family history.

What happens next? Well you will just have to go see the film now won’t you? 😉 I do not want to give away all the magical twists and turns and melt-your-heart moments. However, I will leave you with some fun tidbits about the film and some cool things to look for and take notice of in Coco!

Miguel’s love of music ultimately leads him to the Land of the Dead where he teams up with charming trickster Hector.

THEM BONES – Look for the very subtle nods to the skeleton residents in the Land of the Dead, like the cobblestone streets that feature some bone-shaped paving stones.

CHANGE OF PLANTS – Artists at Pixar Animation Studios like to add vegetation—grass, trees, bushes—to exterior environments, but “Coco” filmmakers wanted the Land of the Dead to be different. The only living plants in the vibrant fantastical world are marigolds.

• During research trips to Mexico, filmmakers learned that the color and aroma of marigold petals are believed to help guide the spirit of a family’s loved one home during Día de los Muertos.

Miguel (voice of Anthony Gonzalez) finds himself in the Land of the Dead—a rich and vibrant community featuring bridges of marigold petals.
